Hudson is the daughter of actors Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson. Her parents divorced when he was eighteen months old, and she considers Kurt Russell, her mother’s long time partner, to be her father.

Hudson graduated from high school in 1997, and was accepted to New York University. She instead chose to pursue a career in acting.

Hudson’s breakout role came in 2000 when she played Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s semi autobiographical film Almost Famous. The role earned her an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.

Hudson married Chris Robinson, the lead singer of The Black Crowes, in December 2000. The couple have a son, Ryder, who was born in 2004. Hudson and Robinson split in 2006.

In 2009 Hudson dated New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez. The couple split late in 2009. Hudson is reported to currently be dating Muse front man Matt Bellamy.

Hudson has appeared in a number of well known films, including How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, The Skeleton Key, Fool’s Gold, Bride Wars, and Nine.
