Lady Gaga learned to play piano at the age of four, wrote her first piano ballad at 13, and began performing at open mic nights by the age of 14. She went to the same school as Paris Hilton and used to be a go-go dancer.

Attended Sacred Heart School, a private Catholic school in New York City. Other students have included J.J. Philbin and Joanna Philbin. At seventeen, she was one of twenty people in the world to have gained early admission to the New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

She is influenced by Madonna, David Bowie, Judy Garland, Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Freddie Mercury, Liza Minnelli, and Michael Jackson.

Her stage name, Lady GaGa, is a reference to the song "Radio Ga-Ga" by Queen.

Interscope music executive Vincent Herbert hired her in January 2008 as a music writer. Her debut album The Fame's lead single "Just Dance" was released on April 8, 2008 and reached number one in five countries. Her song "Boys, Boys, Boys" was inspired by Mötley Crüe's hit "Girls, Girls, Girls".

Her song "Telephone" was originally written for Britney Spears's sixth album Circus but Gaga recorded the song with Beyonce Knowles for her second album, The Fame Monster.

She states that she is very into fashion and that it is everything. She has three tattoos, one her on wrist, shoulder blade, and lower back and is of Italian descent. She is a natural brunette but bleached her hair blonde when she was being mistaken for Amy Winehouse by interviewers while trying to make it big.

She has dated Rudy Charles (2005-2007), Speedy (2009) and it is rumoured, Haus of GaGa creative director Matthew Williams (2010).
