The daughter of a wealthy business man from Alabama, Courteney Cox Arquette started her acting career featuring in a range of small-scale projects from Tampax commercials to a Bruce Springsteen music video in 1984.

She briefly studied architecture at Mount Vernon College in Washington DC, but dropped this in favour of perusing modelling and acting.

Perhaps most well-known for her roll as Monica Gellar in sitcom Friends (1994 - 2004), Courteney has also acted in several films, tv shows and reality series.

Prior to Friends, she gained success in the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. She has also starred in all three Scream films - where she met husband David Arquette - and has recently been signed to act in the movie's fourth installation.

Her and husband David Arquette married in 1999. The have one daughter, Coco Cox Arquette, born in 2004.

Courteney Cox Arquette has been nominated for a worst actress award for film as well as a recent Golden Globe nomination for her lead role in the TV series Cougar Town.
