Winehouse received her first guitar at age 13, and began writing music when she was 14.
In 2003, Winehouse’s debut album, Frank, was released. The album received positive reviews, and was nominated for two BRIT Awards in 2004.
Winehouse's sophomore album, Back to Black, was released in October 2006. It was the highest selling album in the UK in 2007.
In 2008 Winehouse won five Grammys for Back to Black, making her the first British singer to win five Grammys. They included Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
In 2007, Winehouse married her boyfriend, Black Fielder-Civil, in Miami. Fielder-Civil spent nearly a year in prison for assault and attempting to "pervert the course of justice". During his incarceration period he received divorce papers from Winehouse. Their divorce was finalised in August 2009, although rumours are currently circulating that the two have reunited.
Winehouse has had a long and very public battle with drug and alcohol addiction. She has admitted in interviews that she has had problems with depression, self harm and eating disorders.
