Steven Tyler: 'Drugs could have killed me several times over'

Steven Tyler says that he would have died 'several times over' from drug abuse had he not sought professional help.

The 63-year-old Aerosmith frontman checked into rehab at the end of 2009 to get treatment for an addiction to painkillers, and has also tackled problems with drink and drugs.

Sixteen months on, the American Idol judge said that he has managed to find new ways to get his kicks.

He told People, "Left up to my own devices. I probably would have been dead several times over.

"If you think going out in front of high-def cameras and millions of people I'm not high on adrenaline, you're crazy. I'm stoned when that curtain drops. I just don't snort the curtain dropping. I don't snort J.Lo either, though I do breathe her in."
