American Idol host Ryan Seacrest will "miss" Ellen DeGeneres on the show.

Ellen, 52, announced yesterday that she was leaving the talent competition after just one season.

And Ryan, 35, took to his Twitter page to express his sadness about her departure from the show.

He wrote: "Spoke with Ellen DeGeneres tonight, I will miss her on 'Idol'. She's one of the kindest and most talented people in Hollywood!"

DeGeneres is reportedly leaving Idol because of her busy work schedule.

A source told UsMagazine.com: "Ellen definitely quit, she wasn't pushed at all. She knew she couldn't fit, Ellen wanted out for a while."

It has been claimed that singer Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith star Steven Tyler are to take seats on the judging panel.
