Russell Brand pays VMA tribute to 'daft, dopey' Amy Winehouse

Russell Brand paid a moving tribute to his 'daft, dopey' friend Amy Winehouse at MTV's Video Music Awards.

Describing the tragic singer – who was found dead in bed at her London home last month – the British actor said she was an 'ordinary girl with extraordinary hair', who was a 'bit crazy'.

Talking about the first time he heard her sing, Russell, 36, told the audience, "I thought, 'what is this incredible sound, this timeless sound like a roar from the guts of humanity?'"

He then introduced singers Tony Bennett and Bruno Mars who also remembered the star.
