Russell Brand to be a 'great man of God'

Katy Perry believes her fiancé Russell Brand is undergoing a transformation of religious proportions.

The Mirror quotes her telling the Radio Times, "My mum has this idea about Russell that he's going to be a great man of God and his transition is happening."

Brand, 35, is a former heroin addict and a recovering alcoholic. He also had a reputation for being a ladies man. In 2006, The Sun honoured him with The Shagger Of The Year Award, which soon became The Russell Brand Shagger Of The Year Award.

He has been sober since 2002. The controversial comedian met singer Perry, 25, in 2009 and that year proposed while they holidayed in India.

"Can you imagine where he's come from to where he is now? There's got to be a reason why he's arrived at all. My mum is always saying there is a purpose to your life. I'm all into the search," said Perry.

The two will wed in India later this year.
