Randy Jackon 'punches' Idol contestant

American Idol judge Randy Jackson proved he doesn't need Simon Cowell to be Mr Mean as he punched a female contestant in the mouth.

Molly DeWolf Swensen, 22, was stood in line at the start of auditions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when the clumsy judge accidentally punched her in the face.

He was filming a clip where he enthusiastically greeted the crowd.

Sewnsen, a Harvard graduate and intern at the White House, waited for the rest of the day to confront the judge.

She got her chance when she made it through to the audition in front of Randy, J.Lo and Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler.

Swensen said, "As you were running down the line high-fiving everyone you totally missed and kind of punched me in the face."

Randy said he didn't think it was him but a replay of the cameras showed him whacking Swenson in the mouth.
