Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi supports Dirty Dancing remake

Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi supports the idea of a Dirty Dancing remake.

Niemi, 55, has reportedly told the original movie's choreographer Kenny Ortega, who plans to remake the movie, that she approves of his plans.

Ortega recently spoke to Us Weekly and said: "Jennifer [Grey] and I have been talking and she's been so supportive, as has Lisa Swayze and [producer] Eleanor Bernstein, and I couldn't be more thankful for the outreach that has happened from the cast and crew members from the original movie."

Ortega refused to be drawn on who would play the roles after names such as Justin Timberlake, Derek Hough and Lea Michele were rumoured.

He said: "I haven't read anything yet."
