Kara DioGuardi says goodbye to American Idol

Kara DioGuardi has said goodbye to American Idol.

It has now been announced that Kara will definitely be leaving the judging panel on the talent competition.

DioGuardi told US entertainment show Extra in a statement: "I felt like I won the lottery when I joined American Idol two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave Idol.

"I am very proud to have been associated with American Idol - it has truly been an amazing experience."

The 39-year-old added: "I look forward to my next challenge, and want to thank everyone who has supported me, all the best to everyone on Season 10!"

Simon Cowell, 50, left the talent competition in May to start work on the US version of X Factor and Ellen DeGeneres also recently left her role as a judge on the show after just one season.

It is not yet known who will replace the pair on the judging panel but singer Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith star Steven Tyler are said to be frontrunners.

Season 10 of American Idol airs in the US in January 2011.
