Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber has become the second person to reach the 12 million followers mark on Twitter, behind only Lady Gaga.

The 17-year-old's followers made 'CONGRATS JUSTIN' a trending topic on the social networking website today as the U Smile singer reached the 12 million mark.

Gaga, 25, real name Stefani Germanotta, holds the most followed title, as she currently has 12,811,925 followers.

On hearing the good news, Bieber tweeted: "Dam 12 000 000 followers ...... Youu. Guys are incredible!!! Really proud to call u my #beliebers. No ones on the level that my fans r on.

"All 12 million of us!! #MUCHLOVE my friends."
