Jennifer Lopez opens up about her American Idol breakdown

Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez has dished about her emotional breakdown on reality TV show American Idol.

The 41-year-old broke down in tears during a recent episode of the US talent competiton after she was forced to send home contestant Chris Medina who moved viewers and judges with his heartbreaking story.

But holding back the tears on the reality programme was something J-Lo didn't think she would do.

The star, who sits on the new judging panel alongside Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, said: "I know that I'm a passionate person and I know I am an emotional person, I just didn't expect it to hit me in that way.

"I actually cried a lot more than they showed on TV."

The On The Floor singer also discussed her indecision about whether or not to become a judge on singing competition.

She added: "It just wasn't something that I thought was in my plans really."

And although a lot of people didn't think the gig was right for her, Lopez says at the end of the day, she just followed her gut.
