Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler to perform on American Idol

American Idol’s Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler will step out from behind the judges’ table and take to the stage to perform later this series.

The 41-year-old Jenny From The Block singer and Tyler – along with his rock group Aerosmith – will show the contestants how it’s done on the hit Fox show.

Speaking at last night's PaleyFest 2011 in Beverly Hills, the 62-year-old US rocker told Access Hollywood: "I thought it was a big secret. I guess the cat is out of the bag!"

Tyler added that he and his band are yet to decide what song they will perform, but it looks like one person in particular is planning to help them out.

Fellow judge Randy Jackson joked: "I'm gonna judge, and then I will jump on [stage] and perform with them."
