Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced as new American Idol judges
Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have been announced as the new American Idol judges.
The pop diva and Aerosmith frontman will sit alongside veteran judge Randy Jackson when the hit US reality show starts its 10th season in January.
Tyler, 62, who is rumoured to have signed an $18m deal so sit on the panel, and 41-year-old Lopez, who is reportedly being paid $12m, are replacing former judges Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.
The announcement was made during a live streaming on the show’s website, hosted by presenter Ryan Seacrest.
Lopez, wearing what appeared to be a sparkly blue catsuit, told Seacrest that she wanted to find the next Michael Jackson during the upcoming season of Idol.
She said: “I’m looking for the next Michael Jackson – for the best American Idol ever.”
Tyler, dressed in a patterned shirt and black jacket, said it felt “fabulous” and “wonderful” to be a judge on the reality show.
“It feels like the perfect feather nest,” he said.
“I want to bring some rock to this rollercoaster and if you’ve got the heart, talent and feeling to do this, you could be the next American Idol.”
