Derek Hough 'eyes Dirty Dancing role'

Derek Hough reportedly has his eye on the lead role in a remake of Dirty Dancing.

Cheryl Cole's ex is reportedly in the running for the role of Johnny Castle, made famous by Patrick Swayze, but faces stiff competition from the likes of Dominic Cooper, Chace Crawford and Matthew Morrison.

A source told The Sun, "Derek really wants Patrick Swayze's old role. He saw it did wonders for Swayze's career and wants to repeat the magic. He's a brilliant dancer but hasn't much acting experience which worries him."

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Lea Michele are all said to be possibilities for the female lead - originally played by Jennifer Grey - in the movie which is being reworked by Hollywood choreographer Kenny Ortega to mark its 25th anniversary.
