Coldplay debut two new songs live on US TV

Coldplay debuted two new songs for the first time live on US TV last night.

The songs Charlie Brown and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall aired live on Jimmy Kimmel from the band's sold-out Grammy Foundation concert at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), marking their US network television debut on the late-night show.

Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Chris Martin and Will Champion appeared via a satellite link before the show.

Host Jimmy Kimmel explained why the band chose to debut the songs in the US on his show.

"For those of you who don't know, Coldplay were the very first band to play on our show way back in January 2003."

He added, "And they haven't been heard of since."

The star-studded crowd at the gig included actresses Lindsay Lohan and Kate Bosworth.

On Friday, Coldplay will headline Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival.
