Beyonce's baby news breaks Twitter record

The news of pop star Beyonce's pregnancy has set a new Twitter record.

The 29-year-old arrived on the red carpet at MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday and revealed that she and her husband Jay-Z are expecting their first baby.

Social networking website Twitter went crazy with Beyonce-themed posts as the Best Thing I Never Had singer showed off her baby bump.

According to the company, traffic spiked at 8,868 tweets per second at 10:35pm ET on Sunday.

This makes the pop star's on-stage belly rub bigger than the final seconds of the Women's World Cup [7,196 TPS], Osama bin Laden's death [5,106 TPS], and Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding [3,966 TPS].
